Off to a good start
Wow, January is more than half-way over, and I'm only just now writing my first entry for the year. How has 2004 been treating me so far? Pretty well, really.
I had a good birthday to start off the year - my birthday is usually a bit of a non-event, being so soon after Christmas and the New Year. People are either broke or have gone somewhere on holiday, so I didn't get much of a fuss made over it when I was a kid. (My sister's birthday is in the middle of July, so she got big parties and lots of presents every year.. not that I'm bitter or anything
). One year my family (including myself) actually forgot it was my birthday until the evening.
This year was different though. I got cards and presents from all the family on both sides, as well as a couple of friends. That was a pleasant surprise, and it was also good catching up with people who dropped by throughout the day.
I'm 26 now, and although nothing's changed having the number tick over makes me more aware of just how quickly time is passing. I feel a crisis coming on, and I'm already probably too late for a quarter-life crisis.. For a start, I now have less than 4 years in which to buy a Jaguar (registered and roadworthy) in order to win a bet I made with one of my best mates in grade 8. That's not actually a lot of time given how much else I have to get done in the next few years - it's probably not the soundest financial decision either. But I'm not giving up yet. Sorry, Kris, it won't be that easy.
The last year has been hectic, and not really in a good way. Lou has some funny idea about even years being good years though, and I'm hoping (in a non "touch wood" kind of way) that she's right. Already this year things are turning out better though - we've just found out that she's pregnant again, and hopefully this time things will work out. As well as that I found out that I've been approved for the job I was after, so now I'm just waiting on the official offer to arrive (which I suspect has been sent via Mars to adhere to their "glacial rate of change" policy).
Anyway, that will have to do for now or this will become another unfinished update.
