A Master Essayist
I’d never heard of Paul Graham until a few days ago - or if I had heard of him previously I’d already forgotten. He’s a computer science geek who had a successful startup during the dot-com boom and sold it to Yahoo. He’s also a brilliant essayist with a few dozen articles on varied topics, but mostly the economics of software development and the culture of hackers.
Go and read his essays - they’re pure gold. I’ll have to grab a copy of his book Hackers & Painters too, because I can imagine that there’s a lot in his writing I’ll want to come back to later.
Friends online
I just added a link to Sammi in my blogroll. You can see it in the sidebar, currently situated right over there —->
“Blogroll” is a silly word, but I’ve given in, remember? Anyway, it’s what we old fogies used to call “a list of links”, except that you only include other blogs, and I guess they’re supposed to be the ones you actually read. In my case that’s true, I read all of the ones listed, although some more than others. I read a bunch more as well, including several sites that predate the term “blog” but fit the description reasonably closely. I haven’t linked everything, because a) it would make for a long list, and b) it would reveal that I spend too much time reading stuff online. It’s no wonder I have so little time for TV.
If anybody else reads this and would like a link to their own blog, just ask me.
